Gyaru0boy: Max Kornek

Yo~ This entry is gonna be in Dutch and I'm not sure if I'll translate it because I'm a terribly lazy person, am typing this with half-lidded eyes cause I'm exhausted LOL and because I'm actually supposed to write this for class. I could blog about anything I'd like and I was just watching Max's latest video so here I am. :3

Okay, dus... wie de shit IS Max Kornek? Nou, de jongen op het plaatje hiernaast is Max Kornek. Een gyaruo uit Nederland die op het moment in Japan woont en daar ook naar school gaat.

Max is een vlogger (dat staat voor video blogger, voor de onwetenden onder ons) en zijn vlog is een life and style vlog. Hij vlogt dus over zijn (school)leven in Japan en zijn stijl, dat gyaruo zijnde.

Gyaruo is de mannelijke variant van gyaru. Geciteerd van whatisgyaru @ tumblr:

Gyaru fashion is a type of Japanese street fashion that originated in the 1970’s. Gyaru is most commonly referred to as ganguro, but ganguro is actually a subculture of gyaru. Ganguro was popular in the 1990’s, but shortly died out in the early 2000’s. Gyaru is a girly-glam style, breaking away from traditional standards of beauty. Dwelling on the man-made (wigs, fake eyelashes, fake nails, etc). 

Gyaru fashion does not fit with traditional, and media portrayed ideals of Japanese women. It is often identified as a sign of rebellious youth.
Gyaru fashion is typically characterized by dyed hair (which is often lightened to varying shades of brown or blonde), excessively decorated nails, and makeup. This makeup typically consists of dark eyeliner, and dramatic fake eyelashes; gyaru sometimes wear cosmetic circle lenses as well to enhance the size of their irises, to add more width to their eyes. Brands cater to this particular trend by producing fake eyelashes, circle lenses, and other cosmetics. Typically Gyaru are known for being tan, but that is not always the case.

Max zijn stijl binnen gyaruo heet 'onii kei'. Onii betekend in het Japans 'Grote boer' en kei staat voor 'stijl', dus 'grote broer stijl'. Geciteerd van whatisgyaru @ tumblr:

Onii-kei: (Highly Active Style) ( means older brother) Is the male equivalent of Onee gyaru. A more sophisticated visual-kei or gyaru-o look. Leaving behind the brightly colored hair, and clothing of their youth. 

Ik en vele anderen vinden zijn vlogs super leuk en interessant, mede omdat hij erg levendig spreekt, alsof je met hem aan de telefoon bent. Ook omdat hij een niet-Japanese gyaruo(meestal 'gaijin gyaruo' genoemd) is die in Japan woont, kunnen veel mensen... geen flauw idee hoe je dat in het Nederlands zegt, maar 'people can relate to him'.
